This is my first solo trip, not quite a backpacker nor an all-out tripper but one of those “i-can-do-this” moments, that and Cebupac’s piso fare promo (PHP840 RT). My stay lasted for three days and I booked at Hotel Nicanor which was a good enough place considering its proximity to the riverbank and the city proper.
They didn’t offer breakfast so I looked elsewhere and landed at Bethel Guest House (top right photo). At another time I went to the public market to eat puto (rice cake) and sikwate (hot tsokolate made from tablea).

In the evening I’d go by the riverbank where they set up nightly stalls, with tables and chairs that sell food bites like pork bbq, tempura (aka kikiam), fishballs etc. You can easily grab a beer, order some kikiam, sit back and watch people go by or strike up a conversation with a stranger.

I’ve never had fried ice cream before and Dumaguete is home to Panda Ice Cream Haus which happens to sell it. What can I say about it? It’s ice cream with fried coating.

I was surprised that there was place that served Italian dishes, I went to Neva’s for lunch and had the best seafood pizza by far. It was a bit out of town and had to take a jeepney and tricycle ride to get to/from the place.

A food trip to Dumaguete is not complete without dropping by Sans Rival, they are known for their, you guessed it, sans rival and so I had a slice and took home a box (or two).

Dumaguete is a uni town which makes it easy to navigate and walk around, just be sure to have google maps handy in case you get lost.

xoxo
