Why Hanoi?
This was a mom & daughter getaway, we’re actually not close and we usually argue when together but I think it’s still important to spend time with family while you still can. It was also mom’s birthday month (this was in January 2015).
How did you get here?
Plane ride via Vietnam Airlines – from Manila to Ho Chi Minh we flew PAL and from there to Hanoi it was VA. I bought the tickets from tripmoba and at that time I felt that I was getting a discount. I’ve searched for tickets recently and found cheaper ones (not VA but Cebupac).
How much did that cost you?
For 2 RT tickets I paid for Php31,085.40
Where did you stay?
We stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast for $150, we had 2 beds (1 double and 1 single), toilet & bath, there was TV, a table etc – for less than Php5k I’d say it’s worth it. The place was in the old quarter and very accessible to most city attractions. To get to the hotel from the airport I believe we hired a cab, same thing on our trip back.
How many nights did you stay?
3 nights – again, such a bargain
What did you eat?
Everything’s cheap in Hanoi and that’s a good thing! We ate at restaurants and by the side walk.

What did you do here?
I wish I got to go to Ha Long Bay but since I was paying for everything I didn’t have enough moolah to fork over both our trips so we did a DIY walking tour, watched a traditional puppet show, and ate a lot.

What’s the one thing you recommend/most memorable moment in this place?
I’d say a visit to the Presidential Palace Historical Site, you won’t actually get in the palace but only walk around the area which isn’t that bad. I would’ve wanted to see how it looks like inside just because I’m into those things. Also, while preparing for this trip I found out that France colonised Hanoi so a lot of their old buildings were influenced by the French.
