Destination: Salzburg

Why Salzburg?
Sound of Music is an all time fave and I wanted to see the sights where it was filmed.

How did you get here?
A 2.5 hour train ride from Vienna purchased from OBB.

How much did that cost you?
Train fare was EUR19 and I paid EUR3 extra for reserved seats. It turns out, at least when riding Austrian trains, if you don’t get reserved seats you could end up evacuating them when you reach the next stop. For example, from Vienna to Salzburg you have an option to book a seat in advance and say you didn’t and chose an empty seat that said “Linz-Salzburg” you can have that seat until it reaches Linz otherwise someone who has paid for that seat will ask you to move.

Where did you stay?
YOHO, a bed in a 4 bedroom dorm. This is actually better than the other dorm rooms.

How many nights did you stay?
3 nights, I stayed-in one day because I wasn’t feeling good. This is where I also broke my eyeglasses, major bummer. I tried to get a replacement but I guess EVERYTHING was expensive in Europe, eyeglasses not excluded. So what did I do? I went to the grocery and bought several adhesives. So for the rest of the trip it got uncomfortable to wear my frames but I managed.

How much was your accommodation?
About EUR24 per night, in total it was EUR71.

What did you eat?
Breakfast was included, buffet style, usual fare, nothing too fancy but enough to keep your tummy full. I ended up eating in McDonald’s just because the placed looked fancy. I also ended up buying grocery food so no restaurant for me here.

What did you do here?
Well, minus that one day I spent in my dorm I did manage to go on a DIY tour of the Sound of Music location spots. On the 3rd day I was feeling better and decided to have lunch in Munich more details about that trip here.

What’s the one thing you recommend/most memorable moment in this place?
Take a stroll along Goldgasse.
