The last leg of my trip was in Prague and it nearly ruined my entire trip! I wasn’t even planning on going to Czech Republic, I only added it because I read it’s cheaper to visit than other European countries. By this time I’m on the 3rd week of my trip and to be quite honest I was getting restless. I don’t know if it’s all the cities I’ve been in or the length of time I was away or the fact that I had to endure several train and bus changes en route to Prague.
The city itself is actually really nice, crowded, not as fancy as Paris but definitely alive with history. I stayed at a hostel, as usual, the building was an old one (similar to the hostel I stayed in Rome) but the rooms were roomier and sunnier which I really liked. From my hostel it only took a few meters to walk to the main attractions which is an extra bonus. So how did Prague ruin my trip? I stayed in the city for four days, the last day was really meant for traveling back to Rome for my return trip. I went on several tours actually, Prague Castle and Bone Chapel, it felt gothic, medieval, a bit dark for my taste I did always have an affinity for all things shiny. Anyway, the night before my flight I was fixing my things making sure I didn’t lose anything, I went to bed and woke up briefly in the morning to pee and when I came back that’s when shit hit the fan. Someone came in my room and took my phone! All my photos! My phone where I kept ALL of my photos during this trip! I was in complete shock. In less than 3 hours I was set to leave the hostel and go to the airport and there was nothing I could do! Luckily I brought an extra phone so that gave a semblance of peace.
I’ve already decided even at the start of the trip that bunking is not for me, sharing a bed isn’t for me so on my next trip I have to make sure I have the bed all to myself with no bed attached to it. I also realised, regardless where I stayed, to be more alert and be more secure of my belongings because I’m pretty sure I saw a man come into my room right before I stepped out to pee.
