Destination: Las Vegas

Why Vegas?
It was my best friend’s idea to head up north from Long Beach. I went along with it coz after SFO I didnt plan on going elsewhere. I initially wanted to see Seattle (to see the fishmongers from the book Fish! but I went during winter time and it was not the best place for lil tropic girl me).

How did you get here?
We drove (to be specific, my friend did) and it was a pretty long drive about 6 hours (with 1 stopover) if Im not mistaken. I liked the drive and usually I get restless sitting in a car for long periods of time but I managed to keep it together lol. At one point we stopped for gas and coffee which was such a highlight for me coz I felt it was such an American thing to do. Another highlight, on our way back we ate at an actual diner. Too bad I was full and didn’t get to eat an apple pie.

What we had for breakfast at the diner, pancakes, of course. Incidentally, the guy who served us was Filipino.

How much did that cost you?
Nada coz my friend paid for everything (except my meals).

Where did you stay?
At Mandalay Bay.

How many nights did you stay?
I can’t remember (yikes), I think it was 2 but it could be just 1.

How much was your accommodation?
Didnt ask, that would’ve been very rude LOL. Very Filipino but very rude.

What did you eat?
The first night we ate in one of the restos at the casino, usual American fare. I think I had salad and then drinks after at a super hipster bar/club. The morning after we ate at Seafood Co, shrimps and mussels.

What did you do here?
I did a bit of gambling and by gambling I mean slot machines LOL. Went to that hipster club in Old Vegas. Ate some more in the morning, watched the fountain show at the Bellagio, rode the inter-connecting trams (which, to me, is an activity in itself). And then visited Red Rock, that was pretty special.

Le Hipster bar…outside there were tons of board (?) games and before you go inside the club there’s a small stage with a band playing.

We spent more time downtown than at the strip.

What’s the one thing you recommend/most memorable moment in this place?
It really isnt easy to commute or backpack in the US, to me at least but if by some chance you get asked where you want to go and you’ll be taken there, Red Rock is a pretty spectacular place to visit.
