A lot of part 2’s on this trip, Rome, Florence, and Paris. The first time I was here was in 2014, also the 1st time I went on an international solo trip but unlike this year I went on a tour package last time. I think it’s safe to say the amount I spent for that trip (which lasted 9 days) is more than I’ve spent on this one.
Anyhoot, at this point I think I’m done with Paris, I mean the first time I got there it felt new, great, romantic (even though I was on my own), historical but now I just felt that Parisians are generally snooty and I mean that in a nice way. Worse, the weather wasn’t that great, it rained really hard on some days which meant I had to buy a hoodie I didn’t need. The highlight though, at least of Paris, is seeing Montmartre on a sunny day.
What else did we do? Because of the weather we had to rearrange our plans a bit, instead of going to a chateau to do a candlelight visit on a Saturday night, we went on an afternoon tour the following day. The next day we visited Rouen, capital of Normandy, to do some sightseeing.
The chateau is called Vaux le Vicomte and to get there you need to get on a train and then a bus shuttle ride. About the place, basically the original owner was a financial advisor of some sort to King Louis XIV and his intention was to create Vaux le Vicomte in recognition of the King unfortunately he didn’t see it that way so he was sent to prison and things didn’t end well for him.
Rouen’s city centre is pretty small and it’s easy to see it by foot which is exactly what we did. There are 2 things that I remember about this place, their clock and the structure of their old homes. But honestly, I feel like it’s a small shopping town and yes, I made most of my purchases here LOL. The best part of this trip? Eating french toast for breakfast in one of the cafes, absolutely to die for, I still remember how tasty the brioche was, the cream on top of it is as fresh as they come (I hope), and I think it was maple syrup drizzled all over it.
I hope I eventually get to see you under better condition, one where I don’t need to buy extra clothing.
Obligatory photos 🙂
