Siargao

“Travel expands the mind and fills the gap.” – Sheda Savage

I’ve often heard of Siargao from friends as they choose it to have a restful respite from the hustle and bustle of the metro and/or to be digital nomads working and playing at the same time. I finally visited the place in Dec 2023, silly me to forget that this month is when it rains the most and when typhoons always visit. There are 7k+ islands in the Philippines and Siargao sits somewhere between Cebu and Davao (I googled that). It faces Philippine Sea and gets significant wave activity (also googled)-what I want to say is it makes for a prime spot for surfing.

We stayed in a BnB called Coracasa, beautiful quaint little place, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. People say Siargao has been gentrified and if you get to some places, they are probably right but it still holds some of it’s old town charm. We got around in tricycles, had some really memorable gastronomic experiences, and the usual activity tours. While the island can be favorable to solo travelers, I think going in a group is a much better experience.

All those great things aside, I think Siargao is a place I can visit once, no hate. As the saying goes, a great escape, but not a home.
